El Chapo drama series #Cartel in the works

The History  Channel will tell the true story of Mexico’s drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman in drama series #Cartel.

The show is written by the co-creator of Netflix’s Narcos, Chris Brancato, and is co-produced by ABC Signature, the cable branch of the ABC studios  and A+E Studios.

#Cartel reveals the events that took place during El Chapo’s 25-year long reign over the Mexican drug trafficking cartel, and it’s fraught with drug wars, money, power and corruption.

Brancato says the drama is a metaphor for the way we portray ourselves on and the risks of social media. He explores how the drug cartel use social media as a tool for maintaining a powerful media presence and access to new recruits as well as to threaten rivals.

El Chapo has gained international fandom and across the US music and entertainment industry, particularly after he posed for a photo and interview for Rolling Stone with Sean Penn.

#Cartel is currently in  development with a script order for its first episode.
