FIFA 17 releasing September 29, moving to Frostbite engine

This year’s installment of the venerable FIFA franchise will become the second EA Sports property to move to the Frostbite engine, the same one used to power Star Wars BattlefrontBattlefield and Dragon Age: Inquisition. Also: new trailer!

While the game will be built in Ignite, the previous engine/toolkit, on last-gen consoles, the PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC version of the game will run the new Frostbite-built version of the game. The engine first appeared in a sports title last year in Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.

The press release also mentions that FIFA 17 is being developed by EA Vancouver, previously known as EA Canada.

The news of the engine switch came with 60-second teaser, which sadly doesn’t actually show any gameplay, but it does promise that we’ll see much more on Monday morning when EA holds their EA Play press conference ahead of E3 (check out our streaming schedule for dates and times right here!).

FIFA 17 launches September 29 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
