Review: Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (PS4, 2017) offers an improved, welcome return to Ivalice

While millions were playing World of Warcraft, or even the first MMORPG Final Fantasy XI, my first true experience of the open world format was with the game changing Final Fantasy XII in 2006; a title that helped bring an end to Square Enix’s PS2 era with one of the series’ most impressive entries. I don’t think I’ve poured more hours into a game before or since, as I fell in love with the game’s story and its expansive world. Interestingly, though the technology has allowed the series to do more with bigger worlds and better graphics, XII has remained a highlight of the iconic gaming series. Now, 11 years later, Square Enix are returning to the Ivalice and Kingdom of Dalmasca with a new version of the game for PlayStation 4, The Zodiac Age.... Continue Reading

Games projects are abandoned for a variety of reasons, from financial loss and over-ambition, to corporate meddling, and sometimes, it’s a little something in between. Loving video games is hard sometimes, but seeing our most anticipated titles cancelled without warning is harder. Last time, we took you through some of the most disappointing cancellations in recent memory, from the recently surfaced rumours of a third MediEvil game, to the wasted potential of the Darkwatch franchise. The Hidden Gems of the PlayStation 2 Era

As the successor to the original PlayStation, and the awkward stepping block to the technically superior PlayStation 3, the PlayStation 2 is often largely dismissed by the modern era of gamers. Lacking the classic nostalgia of the original console, and the refined graphical capabilities and endurance of the PlayStation 3, the games of this era have largely been forgotten, with a few quality exceptions. While mainstream games such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and San Andreas have stood the test of time, along with classics such as Kingdom Hearts and Devil May Cry, all of which have received remasters or classic ports over to the PlayStation 3 and 4, there are many hidden gems of the PlayStation 2 era that have largely been forgotten.
