Fitbit Blaze v Apple Watch: Which is better?

Smartwatches have become an integral part of people’s lives. Choosing the right one is essential because let’s face it – you don’t want this to be another gadget that ends up being hidden away in a drawer.

At Apple’s iPhone SE launch in March, CEO Tim Cook announced a range of new straps for its smartwatch. He also said Apple were slashing the price of Apple Watch by $50, to US$299.

Apple’s latest range of straps include woven nylon, a tear and rip-resistant reinforced fabric. It will be available in seven colours, along with a new range of leather and sport bands.

CEO Tim Cook said the Apple Watch is currently the “best-selling” smartwatch in the world.

The second generation Apple Watch is reported to be released at Apple’s next event in September, along with the long-anticipated iPhone 7. The new watch is rumoured to feature a front-facing camera for FaceTime and Wi-Fi capabilities.

Apple’s formidable opponent – Fitbit have recently released their own smartwatch – Fitbit Blaze. Here’s an insight at how the two watches compare to each other.

The Essentials

According to Apple’s website – the Apple Watch is designed to be an essential part of who you are. It comes equipped with all the fitness tracking tools, notifies you about phone calls and text messages, as well as give you updates on the weather.

Similar to the Apple Watch, the Fitbit Blaze is stylish and aimed at consumers who want to track and set their fitness goals. It also has call, text and calendar alerts, as well as GPS tools. There are on-screen workouts, which Fitbit have noted as a ‘breakthrough feature’.

Charging

To charge the Fitbit Blaze, the screen is popped out from the band, and the watch is inserted into a charging cradle and then plugged into a USB port.

The Apple Watch is charged through a magnetic charging cable, making the process so simple allowing the watch to gain power from either a USB port or an outlet.

The Verdict

The Fitbit Blaze has a phenomenal battery life of up to 5 days without needing to charge. This of course is dependent on a number of factors such as how you are using your watch as some features will affect the battery life. Compared to the Apple Watch, which has only 18 hours of battery life.

If people are looking for a stylish and cheaper alternative to the Apple Watch, then the Fitbit Blaze won’t be a disappointment. It still has a number of communication capabilities when paired with a mobile device.

The Apple Watch will always be a popular choice particularly because of its rich app ecosystem. Apple developers have thoroughly researched and created new seamless experiences for smartwatch users, allowing them to do anything from making a phone call to checking Facebook.

Price

Fitbit Blaze is available to purchase for $329.95

The Apple Watch is available in three models:  Apple Watch, Apple Sport and the Apple Watch Hermes Edition. Prices start at $949.00
