AIT Melbourne’s inaugural Games Mastermind event a great start for grads

Independent game developers in Australia, particularly those at the beginning of their careers, find themselves stuck for ways to connect and network. In a games industry as small and tight-knit as Australia’s, connections are the best step a person can take toward landing a job in the local dev scene.

Networking events are a semi-regular occurrence in Melbourne, the city where much of the nation’s game dev industry is concentrated. The thing about these events is that you don’t know the people involved, you might not find out when or where they’re happening at all. The aim of AIT’s Games Mastermind event was to help game dev graduates and industry newcomers make important connections as they begin the often arduous process of finding relevant work. Scott Ludlam’s resignation is a massive blow to the Australian gaming industry, and we’re devastated

Earlier this afternoon Western Australian Greens senator Scott Ludlam resigned from his positions in the Australian senate and the Greens deputy leadership. The resignation came following the discovery that he had never formally renounced his New Zealand dual citizenship before running in the 2016 federal election. With Ludlam’s departure, the only voice the Australian games industry had in anything close to federal government is silenced.
