MTV reveals nominations for 25th Annual MTV Movie Awards with Star Wars: The Force Awakens receiving 11 nominations

Yesterday MTV revealed the nominees for this year’s MTV Movie Awards. Being its 25th year, this will be an opportunity for fans to celebrate and recognise blockbuster movies which have received critical acclaim. Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaks just about every record set by Jurassic World in its opening week – except two.

If you thought the race between Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens was going to be a tight one, early indications would have agreed with you. Reports early in the weekend were predicting the film would not overtake Jurassic‘s worldwide opening weekend gross. But they were wrong. In fact, Star Wars smashed just about every record Jurassic World set earlier this year – with only two notable exceptions: its Saturday gross in the US (which it missed out on by a bit more than US$1 million) and its standalone gross for all territories outside North America (US$281 million versus US$316 million). Melbourne is getting the world premiere of Jurassic World: The Exhibition

In a major move for Museum Victoria, the world premiere of Jurassic World: The Exhibition will be taking a place at the Melbourne institution in March 2016, running until October before touring the world. The news was announced this past weekend by Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren who detailed the new immersive exhibition based the Steven Spielberg-produced Jurassic World, which has grossed $1.67 billion globally, breaking all types of records.... It’s been a strong year, starting off with a fantastic Oscar season in January and leading us through to the start of Blockbuster season. So far, 2015 has been one of the busiest years in cinemas in memory. Already three films have topped $40 million in the Australian box office – a feat not even one film managed in 2014. Two of these films make our list below – Jurassic and Avengers, while Furious 7 was the third to round out the statistical list! Read on to see who else made the cut…
