Film Review: 12 Strong (USA, 2018) is as dynamic as it is earnest

Depending how you look at it, 12 Strong‘s insistence on bypassing the usual heavy-handed political messages and overt emotional punches that pertain to war genre films will either be a welcome or rejected additive.  It’s a film that’s pretty standard (at least in comparison to genre greats like Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down), but by no means does this indicate a sub-par production as the ensemble on-hand elevate their characters beyond the limitations of what the script affords them.... Film Review: Nocturnal Animals (MA15+) (USA, 2016) is one of the best films of the year

Better known as one of the world’s greatest fashion designers, Tom Ford proves himself every inch the competent filmmaker with Nocturnal Animals.  Verifying his debut feature A Single Man was no flash in the pan either, Ford juxtaposes a relationship drama feature with a violent revenge tale in such an effortless fashion you’d swear you were watching the work of a seasoned director.  Cross-cutting between his various stories without sacrificing their individual ingredients, Ford has delivered an enthralling film that not only demands your attention but deserves it as well....
