Microsoft Store, Sydney Announces Launch of Xbox Academy for Students

The team at Microsoft Store, Sydney have today announced an exciting new opportunity for Australian students with a passion for gaming and graphics. Xbox Academy will be a videogame-fueled educational establishment opening its doors in April to a multi-talented student cohort of designers and developers. In partnership with the Academy of Interactive Entertainment, Australia’s most prolific educator for game development, 3D animation and visual effects, the Xbox Academy will bring in a range of highly-trained tutors to mentor budding games developers. Many AIE graduates have gone on to work for top game studios around the world, and through their three-hour hands-on workshops, Xbox Academy aims to train and mentor the games developers of the future.

The best news is that the cost of the programs is completely free, and participants in the course will receive a certificate of completion from AIE, a great achievement for any developer. The courses will focus on game programming and how to build an adventure game, how to design the next blockbuster, and how to develop games on the Xbox One S. The classes will take place from the 10th to the 22nd of April 2017 in Sydney, and is open to all students aged 14 and up. Xbox Academy participants will also receive a bunch of free loot, from t-shirts and hoodies to gamer pins, drink bottles and bags.

The game programming workshop will cover everything you need to know to build a 3D platformer using the Unity Game Engine and C# programming language. Participants will be taught be experience game developers and work to create their own unique world and characters to explore it. The games design course will focus on developing a pitch for the next blockbuster game, allowing you to learn about key, important aspects of the pitching process. The final course, Developing Games on Xbox One S, will allow you to learn the basics of game development for the console, including tweaking core mechanisms and crafting a unique gameplay experience.
