When the Nine Network and Fairfax Media announced they were developing online streaming service Stan, it seemed like only a matter of time before they started producing original Australian content. Unsurprisingly, this announcement has been made sooner rather than later, though their first project may come as something of a surprise itself.
Yes, Wolf Creek the series has officially been given the green light, a co-production between writer/director of the two films Greg McLean, and the writer/producer’s of Nine’s popular Underbelly series, Greg Haddrick, Peter Gawler and Felicity Packard.
At this stage, few plot details have emerged, though McLean has said that the events of the series will be set some time after Wolf Creek 2. He also stated that fans can expect something different from the show, outlining, “the films work in a very particular way and they’re very much horror, TV is more of a suspense thriller”.
The first season is set to run for six episodes, with McLean stating, “the opportunity to tell a rich and complex story in his [Mick Taylor] world in a high-quality drama series is a thrilling creative opportunity”.
It is expected that John Jarrett will reprise his role as the murderous Mick Taylor, though there has yet to be any official news of casting in terms of other roles. However one thing is for certain, there is trouble coming in the outback, and I have a sneaking suspicion of who is to blame.
