No-one expected PlayStation to drop a Final Fantasy VII Remake trailer today so guess what they did

PlayStation’s second State of Play video update was broadcast this morning, a short-and-sweet affair compared to last month’s inaugural episode. Sony used their fifteen minutes to hit on title expansions, smaller titles and a couple of high profile remasters.

Opening with Monster Hunter World’s new expansion Iceborne, the broadcast quickly moved through a few cute indies and an asymmetrical multiplayer title Predator: Hunting Grounds before pivoting to the long awaited MediEval remaster. Gameplay showed appeared to capture the goofy charm of the PS1 original, while sharpening a few of its rougher mechanical edges. It’s launching October 25.

The highlight for most viewers will almost certainly be the unexpected teaser for the even longer awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake. From cutscene footage to apparent gameplay, the teaser gave content starved fans something to write home about, with a promise for more in June (seemingly confirming that PlayStation do have something planned for E3 week despite formally pulling out of the show).

No date or launch window on the Final Fantasy VII Remake was announced.
