Pacific Rim: Maelstrom will begin filming in Australia next month

Whether you love it or hate it, 2013’s  Pacific Rim was an absolute spectacle. In news released earlier this week, the sequel to Guillermo del Toro‘s box office hit, entitled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, will begin shooting at Fox Studios Sydney and later in Queensland by November.

Maelstrom will see Star Wars: The Force Awakens breakout star John Boyega in the lead role, as well as the return of Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Max Martini.

Following in the footsteps of major to-be blockbusters such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Thor: Ragnarok and Jackie Chan‘s Opera House defying feature Bleeding Steel, we seem to be quite good at playing Hollywood here Down Under.

Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is set to be released  February 23, 2018.
