For those that haven’t had the privilege to travel through the outskirts of Greece, Palace Norton Cinema will be bringing you The Delphi Bank 23rd Greek Film Festival (GFF) in Sydney to get your Greek culture on. Showcasing 17 films and 16 shorts with some of the titles classified as award-winning from the Greek Film industry.
Screenings will start from October 12 through to October 23 at Leichardt’s Palace Norton Cinema. With films coming from different genres, each film will encompass various stories either in the form of a feature film, short film or a documentary.
“We are extremely proud to present to our audiences the most exciting films and filmmakers from storytellers of Greek heritage,” says Festival Chair, Nia Karteris.
“This year’s program is a rich tapestry of themes, perspectives and great stories to delight, excite, inform and ultimately entertain our Festival audiences. We’re also particularly thrilled about David Tsirekas from newly opened Greek restaurant 1821, agreeing to cater our opening night.”
The film for the opening night will be Christopher Papakaliatis’s Worlds Apart (2015), which will star J.K Simmons exploring the relationship between a Greek and a foreigner, separated into three love stories. The closing night film is another title by Papakaliatis titled What If; a comedic film exploring love, death and the financial crisis.

And for those that are still students making their mark in the film industry, the GFF encourages future filmmakers to showcase their work too. The topic this year is ‘from morning to night’ with a signature item of a clock being included as well. All films are narrated using the Greek language and these will be showcased on Sunday October 23 at 12:30PM. The project is presented by; Greek Film Festival, Greek Orthodox Community of NSW and the Education Office of the Greek Consulate General, with support given by the NSW Department of Education.
