Ripper Street to end with fifth season

The infamous slayings of London’s Ripper Street are set to come to an end with Amazon confirming that the fifth season of the BAFTA award-winning crime series will be its last.

Filming on the final season has begun in Dublin with Joseph Mawrie (In the Heart of the Sea) returning as Detective Jedediah Shine alongside the rest of the series regular cast, including Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenberg.

Amazon stepped into save the show after the BBC dropped it following poor ratings for the series’ third outing, a move that left it as co-producer of the UK’s most streamed show.

No word yet on a release date for when this final season of Ripper Street will hit Amazon’s streaming services.
