Robert Braiden sci-fi thriller 1 enters production in Queensland; Dan Ewing joins cast

With an eye locked on a 2018 release, the latest project from Australian director Robert Braiden, a science-fiction thriller entitled 1, has commenced principal photography. The film has been acquired by Truant Productions, and now as filming commences in South East Queensland, further details regarding cast and story have now surfaced.

Home & Away and Red Billabong star Dan Ewing has now joined the film’s cast as the central lead, alongside NJ Price. The narrative, meanwhile, has been illuminated as a tale of an alien invasion and the battle that ensues when a man is determined to make sure his partner is safe.

Director Braiden, who has mastered his craft through several short films that include the likes of Ink and Black Betty, has labelled 1 as a film that wishes to explore more humanistic qualities in a sub-genre that have become known to focus on the lethalness that comes with survival. He stated in the film’s press release:

“1 is different. From the action and dangerous excitement of high-speed racing to the quiet and solitude of the natural world, ‘1’ will be a profoundly moving and powerful look at life, love, destiny and being able to let go of the material world in order to find new truths.”

Behind the scenes, key creative figures include producer Tristan Barr and cinematographer Damien Lipp. The pair have also collaborated on another Australian feature entitled Watch The Sunset, which is slated for release sometime this year.

Production on 1 is currently under way in Queensland, and as more details surface on the project it will be reported here.
