Throwdown eSports confirms The RLCS World Championship and next season of Rocket League will kick off from 4th February, 2018 with $100,000 AUD prize pool; the largest seen in Australia to date.
Following the success of 2017, Throwdown eSports has announced in partnership with Rocket League developer Psyonix, that it will be commencing the largest regional program for Rocket League in 2018. Rocket League continues to be one of the fastest growing games today, with over 25 million global players monthly.
Next month will mark the beginning of the OCE Open Series, in which eight semi-pro and pro teams will compete for a share of $15,000. The OCE Championship will begin on 4th March, with the top two qualifying teams going on to represent the Oceanic region at the Rocket League World Championship in the US, participating in the huge US$500,000 prize pool.
Throwdown Esports and Rocket League achieved success in the Oceanic region last year, drawing in over a million views on Twitch, in addition to support across previous seasons from companies such as St George Bank and McDonald’s.
Views for Rocket League in 2017 reached a whopping 1.29million, as the Season 4 finals culminated at PAX Melbourne with 2,500 live attendees. Chief eSport club took home the OCE title, all while booking their place at RLCS World Championship in the process.
