Shadowhunters actor Dominic Sherwood on Jace’s difficult second season and his first visit to Australia

Currently screening in Australia week-by-week on Netflix, Shadowhunters is a fantasy series that has amassed a sizeable following. It’s based on the book The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, which also inspired a film, City of Bones, back in 2013. Now in its second season, the

Last week, I sat down with Dominic Sherwood, who plays one of the “Shadowhunters” in the series, Jace. It’s been a tumultuous season for the character, who just can’t seem to catch a break. I asked Dominic about the arc for the character across the season, and found out how much of the character trajectory he knew about going into the series.

Dominic was in Australia for our interview – his first ever time down under – and he let us in on the fact that he didn’t even think the rest of the cast members knew he was down for it.

As our interview continued, we reflected on the revelations of the series – had anything surprised him in recent episodes?

Now that we know the show will return for a third season in 2018, I asked how that would affect the “cliffhanger” for the second season, and also asked if the renewal would once and for all settle the debate of “which is better? The movie or the TV series”. He tried to be an objective observer in his response, though I think we all know which side of the debate he sits…

And finally, as we approach the final six-or-so episodes of the second season, we find out what else the show has in store…

The second season of Shadowhunters is screening weekly in Australia on Netflix.
