Syfy has given Superman prequel series Krypton the thumbs up (at least for the pilot).
The series, initially reported in 2014, may have finally found a home, and while Syfy has only committed to a pilot thus far, the prospect of David S. Goyer (writer Dark Knight, Superman Dawn of Justice) producing adds some serious credibility to the project.
The series will be set two generations before the destruction of the planet that was first home to The Man of Steel, and will follow Kal-El’s grandfather whose House of El was ostracized and shamed. He must fight to redeem family’s honor and save his (doomed) world from horror.
Bill McGoldrick the VP of NBC Universal has affirmed his belief in the series, saying that “Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe. In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”
Moving from his success in Peaky Blinders, Colm McCarthy will direct the pilot with the assistance of show runner Damian Kindler. This seems promising, given the names attached; this could be the first TV series to really imitate the quality of big screen superhero tales.
