Sydney Film Festival 2016 Submissions Now Open

Entries for the Sydney Film Festival’s 63rd annual show are now open. The festival will take place from 8th – 16th June in 2016, and will feature a range of features, documentaries and short films under 40 minutes. In 2015, over 250 films were screened to an audience of 176,000. All submissions are being accepted from FilmLifeFestival, and entries will close on February 26th, 2016.

Next year’s festival will be the 46th year of the Australian short film competition, making it the oldest and most prestigious short film competition in Australia. The competition, which launched in 1970, has launched the careers of many Australian talents, such as Chris Noonan, who went on to write Babe, Don McAlpine, who received an Academy Award nomination for Moulin Rouge, and Jack Thompson, the star of many Australian classics such as The Man From Snowy River. Other past winners include George Miller, Alex Proyas, Phil Noyce and more.

Entries will be open to features, documentaries, and short films under 40 minutes, and there is a range of prizes for each category, including the Documentary Australia Foundation Award for Australian Documentary (cash prize $15,000), the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films Live Action Award (cash prize $5,000) and a whole lot more. There is a small fee for entry, and the Festival encourages all entrants to read the submission requirements closely to ensure that all entries meet eligibility requirements.
