Sydney Airport will open Australia’s very first in-terminal hotel in 2020

Plaza Premium Group have announced that they will be adding not one, but two Sydney Airport openings to their extensive network in 2020. In the first quarter, the 70-passenger capacity Plaza Premium Lounge Sydney, and in the third quarter, the Australian-first Aerotel Sydney hotel.

These openings are part of a US$55 million global expansion plan, which will help Plaza Premium Lounges reach 15 new locations in the new year.

When it opens, Plaza Premium Lounge Sydney will welcome guests into a boutique experience with unique Australian-inspired food and beverage offerings. Any passenger, regardless of airline or class of travel, will be able to access the lounge for an all-inclusive entry fee. This includes fresh seasonal food offerings, an open bar, free Wi-Fi, and “tailored relaxing spaces and quiet surroundings.” Best of all, no membership is required – just pay, enter and relax.

Following the recent opening of Aerotels in Beijing’s new Daxing Airport, and London Heathrow, Plaza Premium Group will debut a 20-room Sydney Aerotel a mere one-minute walk from the arrivals hall, catering for both arriving and departing passengers. This will be a first for Australia, bringing in an in-terminal airport hotel for the ultimate convenience, in light of recent Sydney airport data which shows that as many as a quarter of international arrivals land before 8am, and there is also a strong peak of departing passengers leaving before 9am.

Geared towards providing an affordable sleep and rest option to relax, shower, and nap to weary passengers, the hotel will introduce a dynamic pricing structure of block-hourly rates. There’s even an outdoor bar and café for those who want to fit in a meal before or after their rest.

“We are delighted to be extending our unique offering to the largest and busiest airport in the country here in Sydney,” said Plaza Premium Group General Manager Australia, Stuart Vella. “It marks a significant milestone in Plaza Premium Group’s expansion and is another step forward in our greater goal to transform the airport experience for all travellers regardless of ticket class”.

Notably, the existing Aerotel in London offers flexible booking packages with six-hour, nine-hour and overnight stays. It remains to be seen whether the Sydney property will offer something similar in its pricing structure.
