The Dressmaker secures its place among Australia’s biggest selling DVDs in 2016

Australian comedy-drama, The Dressmaker, starring academy-award-winner Kate Winslet, is proving to be a huge favourite with at-home audiences, with sales of the film hitting 140,000 units in Australia in the first seven weeks of release.

To put that in perspective, that makes The Dressmaker the 4th highest selling drama over the past six years and highest selling Australian drama in over three years.

Cindy McCulloch, Marketing Director for Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, says the film’s unexpected popularity shows good signs for our reception of home-grown cinema.

“Australians want to see strong, local storytelling and The Dressmaker is heading towards becoming one of the classics,” she said.

Set in 1950s Australia, The Dressmaker follows French seamstress Tilly (Winslet) as she returns to her home in Australia’s wheat belt to right the wrongs of her past.

The Dressmaker is available now on DVD and Blu-Ray.
