DVD Review: The Hateful Eight (R18+) (USA, 2015)

The Hateful Eight is (fittingly) iconic auteur Quentin Tarantino‘s eighth film, which this week opened in Australian cinemas for a limited 70mm Ultra Panavision release – the first film to do so since 1966’s Khartoum and the first Western since The Hallelujah Trail (1965). For cinephiles around the world, the day couldn’t have come soon enough, but is the ambitious film – which almost never saw the light of day – worthy of the format in which it’s projected?... Quentin Tarantino’s 9 most violent scenes

That Quentin Tarantino is quite the unique film maker no? With a filmography spanning more than two decades, the 52 year old continues to make entertaining films that are nothing like anything else being made. One of these reasons may very well be his unflinching penchant for violence and its ability not only to progress a story or outline a character, but the incomparable way in which it serves as an attraction.

His eighth film, The Hateful Eight is still playing at cinemas and the formula has certainly not been tempered. Today, we’re taking a look at QT’s most violent scenes in all of his films (I’m splitting Kill Bill up since they were released two years apart).

Oh and this is written with the intention of taking a trip down memory lane, so if you haven’t seen these films, be warned, it’s spoiler heavy.

Watch the bloody new trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight

As with all Quentin Tarantino films, The Hateful Eight has quickly become one of the most anticipated releases of the new year, and after watching the newly released second trailer, it’s not hard to see why. The all-star, gloriously violent project is led by Kurt Ressell, who plays John “The Hangman” Ruth, a man transporting a fugitive (Jennifer Jason Leigh) to Red Rock for her execution, the road to which brings them face to face with a bounty hunter played with Tarantino fave Samuel L. Jackson and a former union soldier played by Chris Mannix, which in turn crosses their paths with an unruly mob of characters (The Mexican, The Cow Puncher, The Little Man, and more)....
