The Triple Rainbow Tour: Chatting with We Say Bamboulee, Eagle & The Worm and Ball Park Music!

Three of Australia’s finest bands are hitting up the East Coast of Australia for a co-headline tour this March. The “Triple Rainbow Tour” will feature Ball Park Music, Eagle & The Worm and We Say Bamboulee.

We caught up with all three bands to talk about the tour. And rainbows.

EAGLE & THE WORM:

1. If you were a colour of the rainbow, which colour would you be?

I always wondered why rainbows had 4 or 5 really good colours and 2 or 3 that were really weak and pale. I spent my childhood starting at the sky feeling let down…couldn’t understand why some of the colours were hardly there??…Got my eyes tested when I was 21 and sure enough- I am colour blind. I can see most colours, but some are really weak. I like red because to me it is really bright and warm. I like red rugs at home.

2. If you actually saw a triple rainbow, what would your reaction be?

I’ve definitely seen a double rainbow…a few times…but a triple, I’ve never seen. I guess a triple rainbow would make a lot of peoples’ day. Kids at school would be bowled over by it, and it would be a nice thing to look it whilst driving home from work.

3. How would you describe the life of an up-and-coming band in Australia?

Being a musician is a good job. Most of my friends are musicians, and I can’t imagine life without some kind of art. I work pretty hard, spend a lot of time at my computer sending emails, trying to convince people that EATW are amazing, and a spend a lot of time writing songs and rehearsing with the band. I used to play in 4 or 5 bands at any one time, and work as a bass player/songwriter, but at the present I’m able to focus on Eagle. I studied music in Melbourne and I have been playing and writing since I was 16. There are a lot of different things that musicians do. My thing is writing, home studio, and performing. It’s like being a crafts person

4. What can we expect from your shows in the Triple Rainbow tour?

Just trying to figure that out myself. Should there going to be a “Rainbow Themed” sing-a-long with all the bands? It sounds horrible, but that’s the angle I’m working with at the moment.

5. What are some of your favourite songs by the other artists on the bill?

I Fly by Ball Park Music is a wicked pop song. The chorus- “I fuckin’ love you. I think you’re pretty” ‘nough said! We Say Bambolee – I haven’t seen yet- but their music is great. Check out their bandcamp site. The EP artwork is amazing!

BALL PARK MUSIC:

1. If you were a colour of the rainbow, which colour would you be?

The best type of question! I’d be all of them man. LGBT pride all the way home.

2. If you actually saw a triple rainbow, what would your reaction be?

If it was in the sky, I’d be humbled and impressed. It is possible, but I’ve read that it is rare. However, as the tour has prompted me to read about rainbows, I’ve since learned that in the lab scientists have observed rainbows beyond the 32nd order, and sometimes as high as the 200th order. So I’ve got nothing really. And, I must add, I would hate to imagine how that gent from YouTube would react if he were to observe such a thing.

3. How would you describe the life of an up-and-coming band in Australia?

It’s fun. Checking your emails can be a bit of a thrill; there are often exciting and unpredictable opportunities that pop into your life. But I think it’s important for people to remember that, really, we’re all quite boring. I’m boring. A lot of musicians are boring. And we’re not half the rockstars people expect us to be. My idea of a good time is a cup of tea and a chat about space with my friend, and just this afternoon, I saw Jen post on Facebook that she was enjoying using MYOB at her new job. Go figure.

4. What can we expect from your shows in the Triple Rainbow tour?

I imagine we’ll get into the rehearsal room again soon and polish up our act. We’ve played a lot in the past few months, but I know we’ll dedicate some time to developing a good show to take on the road. I guess the main objective is to have reasonably good music and to play it well, but we can throw in some gimmicks for the crowd. Maybe some wiggles outfits. Nudity, fire. Who knows?

5. What are some of your favourite songs by the other artists on the bill?

If I’m perfectly honest I’ve only heard a handful of the songs by the other bands. I think this part of the joy of going on tour. By the end you become extremely familiar with the bands music (yes, sometimes too familiar) and you get the chance to truly appreciate what they have worked hard at. I’m genuinely looking forward to hearing the music of the other two bands and hopefully growing to love it.

WE SAY BAMBOULEE:

1. If you were a colour of the rainbow, which colour would you be?

If we limit the colour palette to that of a rainbow paddlepop, I’d say we are the aqua blue colour. It’s the colour that is responsible for the sweet delicate flavour of said delicious icy treat.

2. If you actually saw a triple rainbow, what would your reaction be?

Probably an explosion. We can’t go into too much detail but there would be blood everywhere.

3. How would you describe the life of an up-and-coming band in Australia?

Pretty chill. We don’t take anything too seriously so it’s all one big adventure. All road trips, delicious breakfasts, and hanging out with a bunch of rad dudes.

4. What can we expect from your shows in the Triple Rainbow tour?

We’re hoping for a bit of collaborative action at some point. Eagle and the Worm and Ball Park probably don’t know it yet, but we’ll see what we can hook up. We’re crossing fingers that they love Hall and Oates as much as we do.

5. What are some of your favourite songs by the other artists on the bill?

Can’t go past the future theme. ‘Futureman’ by Eagle and the Worm and ‘Sad Rude Future Dude’ by Ball Park Music have got us jibin’ and vibin’ around like mad.
