Australia’s only SciFi Film Festival is set to stun with its line-up of blockbuster premieres, features, and shorts from around the world. The festival will run over the course of five days in October at The Ritz, Randwick and will give sci-fi lovers a chance to splurge on an abundance of out-of-this-world sci-fi films, as well as a chance to learn from the best with a workshop from illustrator Tani Kunitake (Star Wars: Episode VIII, The Matrix)
The line-up will see an Australian exclusive, the only big-screen appearance of the dystopian horror, The Purge: Election Year, as well as a star-studded Australian premier of the film Equals, starring Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Kristen Stewart (Twilight).
Some other notable screenings include For the Love of Spock, the access-all-areas documentary about Leonard Nimoy by his son Adam, which marks the 50th anniversary of Star Trek and invites Trekkies of all ages to come along donned in Star Trek cosplay. As well as sci-fi horror flick Rupture, which depicts a single mother who has been kidnapped by an organisation intent on turning her into a monster.
In addition to the film screenings, SciFi Film Festival will be hosting a free side event at AFTRS in Moore Park, on Saturday, October 22. The event will showcase snippets of three upcoming Australian sci-fi films, as well as presentations by sci-fi filmmakers, and a workshop by illustrator/storyboard artist Tani Kunitake (Star Wars: Episode VIII, The Matrix)
The festival will be held between the 19th – 20th of October. Tickets can be purchased here, and a special VIP festival pass, with access to each session, as well as skip-the-queue privileges, can be purchased here.
