The 9th Indonesian Film Festival (IFF) will be held in April till May to showcase the best from contemporary Indonesian cinema. The festival is in its 9th season and is a collaboration between Indonesian Student Association of University of Melbourne and University of Technology, Sydney. Dubbed as the “Largest Celebration of Indonesian Screen Culture held in Australia”, IFF showcases an eclectic range of art house cinema from Indonesia, which is known for its striking beauty and rich cultures. The 9th IFF will be held on 24 April to 3 May 2014 at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne and 25 April to 27 April 2014 at EVENT CINEMAS in George St, Sydney.
In total eight films will be screening at IFF. Some of the highlights include the critically acclaimed opening night film Something In The Way, adventure film Sagarmatha and the action comedy Comic 8.
In addition to the films, the 9th IFF will also host an informal Meet & Greet and an intensive Workshop & Seminar.
The Meet & Greet will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30pm in La Di Da, 577 Bourke Street, Melbourne.
At the Meet & Greet event the IFF will have guest speakers from the film Something In The Way and Comic 8, director Anggy Umbara and actor Kemal Palevi.
The Workshop & Seminar will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 1:00pm in the Yasuko Hiraoka Myer Theatre, Level 1, Sidney Myer Asia Centre, at the University of Melbourne. Hanung Bramantyo, the director of 2014 and Mira Lesmana, the producer of Sokola Rimba, will be the guest speaker at this event. The broad theme is “Discover The Indonesian Film Industry and Film Making”, which will be accompanied by a question and answer session.
These events are open to the general public, and will be a great opportunity to meet and talk with the artists, directors, and producers of the films the IFF is screening.
