The Blade Runner sequel gets a name, release date and an Oculus VR experience

We finally know what the sequel to the 1982 cult sci-fi film Blade Runner is going to be called, with the release date, title and an Oculus VR experience all confirmed today. We also got a picture of Ridley Scott, Denis Villeneuve, Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling all together during the film’s production – which you can see above.

Blade Runner 2049 – that’s the title, and the release date is set for the US market exactly one year from today – 6th October 2017. Alongside the release of the film, Alcon Interactive will create and distribute an Oculus Rift exclusive virtual reality experience for the sequel. The VR experience is expected to be available around the October release.

While detailed news has yet to been released on what the VR experience will entail, fans can look forward to the notion of spending time with Harrison Ford or Ryan Gosling in VR.

The news comes shortly following Oculus Connect 3 announcements that the company is working on a standalone VR headset, and a third sensor that turns the Rift into a room-scale VR system.

Blade Runner 2049 will hit US cinemas on 6th October 2017. An Australian release date has not been confirmed, nor has the VR experience, but both would be expected for the same week.
