I know, that headline doesn’t make a lot of sense. Here’s what’s up: Microsoft dropped their latest piece of kit, the Surface Pro with 4G this morning which is good news for tech fans looking for their new portable machine. Not content to run a typical marketing campaign, Microsoft AU decided to send Australian DJ Basenji into the sky with his whole studio and one of the new Surface Pro’s with the goal using the device to create his new set, perform it on the spot and put it online without ever coming down to land.
Basenji and all his gear were bundled into a hot air balloon in Western Sydney at sunrise and sent into the air. Displaying a level of early morning productivity we hope to tap into ourselves some day, the Sydney musician produced and then immediately performed his 37-minute EDM odyssey in full before uploading it to his SoundCloud using the device’s 4G mobile connection — all from the basket of a hot air balloon a little over 900 metres above Sydney (that’s about 3000 ft). You can watch the mini doc of him doing all of this in the embed below.
If you liked what you heard in the video and feel like giving the track, Up in the Air Mix, a listen you can jump over to Basenji’s SoundCloud right here.
Microsoft loves a bit of a stunt and this one’s no different. The Microsoft Surface Pro with 4G is available from the Microsoft Store and most major Australian electronics retailers today and will set you back a cool $2,199 AUD RRP.
We recently checked out the Surface Book 2 for review and found it to be a really impressive machine. If the Surface Pro with 4G continues the trend, it’ll be a powerhouse laptop to watch.
