The Tony Awards are coming to Foxtel!

Broadway enthusiasts rejoice: the 69th Annual Tony Awards will be screening live on Foxtel on Monday 8 June.

Hosted by Broadway stars Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming, who have both been previous Tony recipients, the Tony Awards recognise excellence in both Broadway plays and musicals.

The two musicals An American in Paris and Fun Home cleaned up at the nominations, both scoring twelve nominations each. The revival of The King and I scored nine nominations, including a nomination for star Ken Watanabe. Host Chenoweth is nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Musical for her role in On the 20th Century; she will be up against Kelli O’Hara (The King and I), Chita Rivera (The Visit), Beth Malone (Fun Home) and Leanne Cope (An American in Paris).

Many screen stars have been nominated for their roles in Broadway plays, including Carey Mulligan (Skylight), Elisabeth Moss (The Heidi Chronicles), Bradley Cooper (The Elephant Man), Bill Nighy (Skylight) and Helen Mirren (The Audience). New play The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time earned six nominations, and the revival of Skylight scored seven.

The awards will be screening on Foxtel channel Foxtel Arts (Channel 132) on Monday 8 June at 10am AEST, with an encore screening the same day at 6:30pm AEST.
