Want to join the Overwatch League? Overwatch Contenders begins in Aus and NZ in March

Australian and New Zealand players who think they’ve got what it takes to play in the Overwatch League can put their skills to the test when the Overwatch Contenders league touches down locally next month.

Overwatch Contenders is Blizzard’s dedicated Overwatch semi-pro league, also running its inaugural year alongside the professional league already in progress. Its aim to showcase the best up-and-coming players from around the world as they face off against the very best talent their region has to offer. For Contenders players, there’s a prize pool of $150,000 USD available per year with three seasons to be conducted throughout 2018, but the real benefit may be that any dazzling play may draw the eye of Overwatch League talent scouts looking for the right player.

The good news is the Contenders League will be getting a stream of its own, with play commencing at 2:00PM AEDT/4:00PM NZDT on March 12 over at the Overwatch Contenders Twitch channel. Show your local players some support, we need more Aussie and Kiwi players in the OWL.

You can find out more about the Path to Pro here, and more about which teams will be representing Australia and greater Oceania in the Contenders league here.

Update: An earlier version of this article indicated March 11 as the kick off date for the Overwatch Contenders stream locally per the original press release. Blizzard ANZ have advised the correct date for local audiences is March 12, and we’ve updated the piece to reflect this.
