Xbox Australia are releasing IRL PUBG supply drops across the nation this weekend

Fans of the immensely popular online shooter PlayerUnknown‘s Battlegrounds in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, get ready to mobilise. Xbox Australia are, perhaps irresponsibly, planning to release real world versions of the game’s coveted supply drops into your neighbourhood this very weekend.

All of this is to celebrate the game’s console launch on Xbox One next week. The IRL supply crates, unlike the ones found in the game, will not contain weapons or implements with which to destroy your enemies. Instead they will contain Xbox and PUBG freebies, from codes to get your own copy of the game, PUBG merch and Xbox One Elite controllers, all the way up to actual, honest-to-god Xbox One X consoles.

The locations of these supply drops will be revealed through a series of events shared via the Xbox Australia Facebook page. As soon as the event goes up, you’ll know where to go to try your luck at getting some loot. There’s 25 prizes up for grabs at each location and the whole hootnanny begins on Saturday, December 9. May the odds be ever in your favour, etc.

Here’s a trailer with some dorks running around in the scrub:

I feel like I shouldn’t have to append this piece with a warning, but I also feel like Xbox Australia might have underestimated how fucking bonkers some of you PUBG fans are so, please, best behaviour okay? Please do not actually conduct yourself as you would in the game when approaching one of these IRL crates. Someone is going to get hit with a real, actual frying pan over a free Xbox and I am not cleaning it up.

PUBG arrives on Xbox One Game Preview on December 12.
